The Yuha Desert, east of Calexico, CA, and in the Sonoran Desert (which also includes parts of Arizona and Mexico), just north of the Mexican border, offers a rugged desert landscape enhanced by Ocotillo, distant hills and water in buckets (marked "Agua" and with a flag), every quarter mile, for passers by.
