Islands White, Chafee, Freeman and Grissom off the shore of Long Beach, CA. Three of the Islands are named after Apollo 1 astronauts who were killed in a fire in 1967, Command Pilot Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom, Senior Pilot Ed White and Pilot Roger B. Chaffee. The fourth island was named after Theodore Freeman, an astronaut who was killed in a plane crash. These islands are owned and operated by Occidental Petroleum, and are involved in oil drilling.
