Devils Postpile National Monument

Devils Postpile National Monument features unique columns with hexagonal cross-sections that were formed from basalt lava approximately 100,000 years ago. A glacier in later years sheered the wall of columns 60' high, exposing them.

Here, the columns lie diagonally.


Hike to the top of Devils Postpile and see that the top of the columns resembling tiles.
