Angeles Crest and Angeles Forest Highways, CA, after the Station Fire

Charred remains of trees and other vegetation against a still-beautiful mountain backdrop, burned in the Station Fire from late August through mid-October 2009, as seen for miles and miles along the Angeles Crest and Angeles Forest Highways.  To see photos taken along the same route, less than a week before flames broke out,  click here.

The Hidden Springs Cafe on Angeles Forest Highway Succumbs to the Station Fire

I have been wondering if the Hidden Springs Cafe, which is in an isolated part of the Angeles National Forest, survived the Station Fire.  Unfortunately, I found a report on the LA Times Blog that it burned to the ground.  Above:  a photo taken on August 22nd, less than a week before the fire started.  Click here to see the scenery along the Angeles Forest and Angeles Crest Highways, much of which, I assume, has burned.  Here is a link to what remains of the Hidden Springs Cafe.

Mount Baldy, CA

Above: the chair lift that travels up Mount Baldy in the San Gabriel Mountains.  Mount Baldy is about one hour east of Los Angeles, and the area provides great mountain vistas, rustic inns and restaurants, hiking, camping, mountain biking and skiing.

Many wildflowers still in bloom along the way.
