Bodie State Historic Park, CA

After William S. Bodey discovered gold in the surrounding hills in 1859, the town of Bodie, CA quickly grew to 10,000 by the early 1880s.  By the early 1940s, the town had declined, and Bodie was made a state park in 1962.  Only a small part of the original town survives, but enough remains for tourists to get a legitimate glimpse into the past.
