I searched for "congress created dust bowl" after seeing the signs along Interstate 5 and not knowing waht they meant. Thanks for the information.
"hey bob, this land gets less than 10 inches of rainfall a year." "well, george, i gess it is perfect for growing lettuce and tomatos and cotton and walnuts then, isn't it."
I've lived in the Central Valley & driven up & down the Valley many times for many years. Not to minimize the importance of the agricultural contributions or the water problems of my favorite Valley, but some of these signs are suspect - standing as they are on barren stretches where no one has ever grown anything (your last picture is a good example). If people want to make a political statement, they should keep it real & honest, IMHO.
Absolutely crazy that these fruitless plains have been created. It is so sad for the farmers.
Interesting posting. I wonder what the latest is.
Anyone out there has an updated information on the situation on here? I mean, is it still the same as what is shown on these photos? I am just wondering, knowing the fact that this has been posted 2 years ago. :-)
